10 Years Anniversary: When Mohit Malik Proposed Marriage To Aditi Shirwaikar, She Thought It Was A Prank

What makes a love story one in a million? Emotion, romance, compatibility, or understanding? Sure, all this certainly helps, but the proposal is what makes it truly special.
Yes, that's what makes a tale of love worth cherishing. As part of our weekly story-telling session, we will tell you how TV actor Mohit Malik proposed to Aditi Shirwaikar. But wait, it's not just about that, there's more to the tale. Read on.

Not many know, but Aditi and Mohit didn't have a long courtship. They met on the sets of Banoo Main Teri Dulhan and soon, became friends. Just a few months into the friendship, the two realised they liked each other. However, both of them were hesitant to express their feelings. It was Mohit who finally gathered the courage to say it out and proposed marriage to Aditi. Our most favourite part of this proposal was her reaction to it - she actually thought it was a prank because it happened on April 1, 2010. Also, because Mohit was known for his pranks.

Aditi Says:

"It was April 1, and knowing the kind of guy that he is, I thought I should wait for a day to let the thought sink in to be sure it isn't April fool prank, and then he asked me the same question the following day, and that’s when I knew that is was a serious question and I said ‘YES’, of course!" she told a leading daily."

How they overcame cultural differences

Since he was a typical Punjabi munda and she, a Marathi mulgi, one would expect they had to make a lot of adjustments. Sure, they had to. But what is worth appreciating is the fact that they didn't let these cultural differences have an impact on their relationship. If you ask Aditi, she says Mohit made the transition easy for her.

The Kullfi Kumarr Bajewala (Kulfi: The Singing Star and The Lies Of The Heart actor) strongly believed that love can overpower anything, including cultural diversity.

The Big Plunge

In July 2010, the couple got engaged in a private ceremony with only close friends and family in attendance. And, in December, they became man and wife. Revisiting her marriage day, Aditi told an entertainment portal that Mohit was late to his own wedding. The pheras were slated for 7:30 pm, but he only entered the venue, two hours later, at 9:30 pm. The actress recall how each and everyone of them, including the organisers, were anxious about the delay. The funniest part was when the organisers asked Aditi's family if they should wait or start packing things up. Crazy, isn't it?

An embarrassed Mohit made up for this mistake by preparing a speech for her in Marathi for their first anniversary. It was an earnest attempt, but if Aditi is to be believed, she couldn't understand much of it. However, she was happy that he made an effort considering he can't speak Marathi at all.

The couple never fails to show how much they love and cherish each other on their social media accounts, their social media pages are filled with a photo of both of them expressing their Love for each other.
